Maelstrom Guard

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Maelstrom Guard

Post by Kamikazie-Bunny »

The Maelstrom Guard
-----------------------------

Overview
------------

Upon first appearance the Maelstrom Guard appear to be religious extremists who have quarantined a swirling nebula encompassing a black hole in close proximity to a (Gravimetrically Impossible) wormhole. The Maelstrom Guard believe that one day 'The Great Enemy' will emerge from the nebula and until then it is observing that which enters the nebula. They seek to deny the 'Great Enemy' knowledge so that they may fight it better when it emerges.

Whether this is true or not is speculation but massive battles have been confirmed within the nebula between the Maelstrom Guard and an unknown force.

Ships
-------

The ships of the Maelstrom Guard are described more as evolutions than developments. Newer ships can visually be traced back through their family with parents being older classes and children being newer developments. This 'Evolution carries inherent strengths and weaknesses, as the designs develop the entire fleet is upgradeable resulting in much more potent ships than that of other fleets however vulnerabilities can also be carried over. Families of ships tend to form combat groups which work incredibly well together as they intuitively protect each others weaknesses. The preferred weaponry of the Maelstrom Guard is developed through trial by fire; unless a weapon can prove to be effective in actual combat it is often dismissed or sent back for further development.

Say, I like the use of the pirate core. It hasn't seen use in quite some time :P
I also liek the transports. Ingenious in their simplicity.

Nifty fleet you've got there. All you need now is a carrier to round it out :)
It would be good if the armoured transport could sport more hull parts to reflect its name.

Looks nice, though the cores all seem a bit exposed.. a little bit of frontal fire and they all go kaboom.

Cheers all. I'm going to have take a look at putting armour on the Transport, it's a good idea and I've only thought about how it could be done last night without completly redesigning it (has now been changed slightly, not a major improvement but an improvement nether the less).

That lack of frontal armour, it is intentional. It's always a good idea to use the railguns to take out enemy weapons before they can fire.

Going to expand the ship descriptions into something a little more technical when I get chance.

The files have now been uploaded, feel free to have a tinker and give feedback.
