this will knock your socks off! GRAND CRUISER

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

That's not a bad try Nahki, we could use some more images for the how-to guides and stickies.

Oh, and bahamut? Those white lines are NOTHING like power conduits, they are more like logical, sequential connections.

Don't think of them as power conduits, they are used for physical connections between pieces of your ship. The rule of thumb is that the lines from each section, weapon and module should be pointing toward the section that they are stuck onto.

Wow. I'm really glad that I didn't even look at the forums here until I had a feel for the game. Otherwise I might've ended up much like this guy (although even I knew how parenting worked).

Also, one other bit of advice:
Try to overlap hull pieces; the ship tends to look better and it also lets you make the weapons a bit stronger.

^^That was really the only problem that I had when I joined.

And, of course, fix the parenting.

Anna Edit: Thank you for the deep, insightful and critically thought out commentary, Raul. Really, you're a inspiration to us all. Sadly, under Arcalane's draconic reign of terror, I am forced to give you a warning for being a stupid spammy fuck who made a stupid spammy post with no actual motherfucking content.

OK i have read all your posts and now i understand what i did wrong! thank you sooo much!

here is my new ship to prove that i fixed the glitches, the Human Fighter.
Image

The story for the Human Fighter is as follows. in the year 2366, the humans of the union of federated conglomerates (UFC) developed advanced spaceFighter technonolgy. they outfitted their fighters with advanced jump-drives, lazer cannons, blasters, and mine launchers. these fighters were led by the elite Squadron, Angelic Fury. Captain John Yamatze was the leader of the Squadron. now, with the robot legion in full assult, John Yamatze and his elite squadron are one of the human's last hopes. with there help, countless planets were liberated from robot hands and many lives were saved. but, Angelic Fury is not enough to stop the robot legion. over the years, the number of fighters has dwindeld from 300 to 59. if the humans cannot push the robots back, the war will soon be lost.

here are the downloads for the Human Fighter

from now on, i will add more of the story with each new ship. so keep watching here.

Stretching is pretty ugly, and stock green makes my eyes cry. I also think I see a mirroring error in the center, with doubled Nanomatricies and Deterlings.

At least you got the parenting right this time...

You might want to check that dieterling and nano matrix for being slightly off-center (meaning there is a near-overlapped one). Not sure if that was intentional or not. :?

1) That is so not a fighter.
2) For shit's sake stop stretching sections it looks ugly.
3) Your megatachyons are on backwards again.
4) Parenting is a lot better but a bit wobbly in places (around the wings)
5) Mirroring errors abound down the centerline.
6) Aegis is nice but don't abuse it.
7) This won't win any beauty contests. :|

did you even read my post?

The colors are random, the pieces overstretched and the entire outline and shape doesn't look good.

for that ship, I would just delete everything forward of the Demeter launchers and the section nine and redo it.

as a rule of thumb, never stretch sections more than 3 times in either direction, bigger or smaller. sometimes it's OK. this isn't one of those times.

also, please don't make any more one color ships. they really make the ship look bad overall. try to use 2 or 3 colors that look good together.

also, a rules question: we won't get a warning for macro's if we post nahki's diagram in newbie threads will we?

I don't think so, since its an instructional diagram rather then a macro really.

In that spirit I made this
Noctis's 10 step guide to parenting for newbies

I think a little bit of comedy and brutality will help to drive home the importance of good parenting. Its basically just an expanded, larger, easier to read version of the above. The pictures and comedy are there for eye catching but the information is quite sound.

You think right. That was actually pretty damn funny, and I think it will also be educational for all the newbies. I give this (and you)Anna's Seal of Approval*
