Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!
This is the first ship for the fleet I'm building to counter the Do'Rylus. It's really my first venture into ships that are more angular, less smooth and curvy. I'd love to hear any advice or criticism you guys have about the ship.
The Acantho is stronger than Do'Rylus Warbirds (fairly comparable to the strength of two Warbirds), but significantly weaker than a Warmonger. I features two main armaments. The primary weapon is a front-mounted gatling gun. It is capable of unleashing a rapid burst of high-velocity projectiles that are somewhat inaccurate, but can chew through armor plating in a hurry. The secondary weapon is a pair of Hellfire Rocket Launchers mounted on each side of the hull. These missile systems have no guidance system, but they fire a quadruple burst of high velocity rockets that can really deliver a punch. Defensively, the Acantho sports plenty of ablative armor, and two point defense beams.

Interesting use of angles, and I love the weapons. All in all, a good ship, if nothing spectacular in appearance. One thing I do absolutely love about this ship is it's engines. The aegis, with the pastel blue over the thrusters, gives a wonderful impression of a shield system. If I may ask, what sections(types?) are shielded ?
I don't really like the ship's name. A phoenix should be nimble and gracious, not some bulky chunks strapped together.
The name will probably change, depending on what I end up naming the entire fleet. I just had to call it something, and that was all that came to mind .
I don't think it really needs a thread, it's decent, nothing to scream about, bad or good.
It's the beginning of a fleet, I just didn't name the thread the fleet name because the fleet doesn't have a name yet.

It's two section 11s, one shaded light blue and one a darker blue.

I'll agree with that.
The ship looks pretty utilitarian, though... perhaps it could use some variation in the outer-line of the hull. (For example, having the middle section be a bit wider then the front and back sections.)
alright, here's version 2. I added some to the back to break up the blockiness, and I redid the engines (I'm really happy with how they turned out this time.
(just realized this picture doesn't have the thruster modules on it. They are still there on the ship, I just took the screenshot before I put them back on)
Thoughts? Better than the original? I'm still not completely sold on the extra sec 26s I added, but they do break up the blockiness I bit.
No, seriously, gatling guns and laser sights shouldn't really go together, I mean a laser sight is supposed to be "where the bullet goes", not "where the bullet doesn't go but the general area"

Wow, the second version looks great without those thrusters The ships looks very nice and I like the highlighting on the sections.
You also said you need some help with the name?
May I offer some suggestions?
I gathered some while thinking some ship names while playing X3 reunion a few months back and I have plenty to offer

Laser sights are the exclusive property of sniper rifles? I mean, it couldn't hurt could it? It looks cool and it's not completely absurd, and that's really all I'm concerned about.

Glad you like it.
If you've got name suggestions, I certainly wouldn't mind hearing them. I still have to come up with a name for the faction and define the whole backstory and all, and that'll influence how I name the ships.

Hmmmm.... Lets see....
It looks like a Bellatrix or a Thyreo
Navigium is also a good name for it, Acantho as well.
And as for a faction name ill try to come one up for you. Unfortunately my ship name list that I made doesn't include any good faction names

Just mostly absurd. Thing is, with a weapon like that, a sight doesn't do you much good (since you can't exactly improve the accuracy of such a weapon very much) and as Empty said, it'll set off deflectors.
Ed: Comparison: It's like putting a scope on a shotgun that uses buckshot.
