Double Post
Decided to give you normal zoomed shots of each current ship.
The Schwann
The Ranvier
The Myelin
The Soma
(I Just noticed some are missing thrusters, I'll fix it tomorrow.)

Finished Soma is quite delicious! Still waiting on the armament, of course, but it looks very, very good. The shading really brings out the shape of it. Also, sweet use of curves.
EDIT: One thing you may consider is using sections 23, 17, and 13 along the centerline to try and hide it a bit; I just noticed that on the Soma it stands out a bit. Plus, section 17 is fricking awesome. I don't think this is critical to the ship's aesthetic by any means, but when you cover up that centerline and do the kind of shading you've done, it really works together to make the part edges sorta blend together to show off the shape of the ship as a whole. Gimme more eyecandy!

Seeing as I think the best use of those sections would be on top of the others, the parenting honestly probably will never matter, as not a whole lot will be parented to it, and if it is getting destroyed probably all the other sections around it and under it are getting smashed too anyways. It's never been a big issue for me at any rate, and I think it'd be a worthwhile thing to pursue.
