The Insect Fleet

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

The Insect Fleet

Post by HalfThere »

The allied ships, starting in the lower right corner and going clockwise, are:
-The battleship Wasp a heavy defensive ship with deflector technology and a diverse loadout
-The battlecruiser Hornet, also incorporating deflector technology and carrying powerful beam weapons
-The frigate Bee, carrying modified "burst missiles" that launch four missiles in one volley - an agile long-range fighter
-The battleship stinger, a mighty offensive powerhouse outfitted with twin boosters that power the staggering volleys it inflicts with its pulsars, plasma charges and tachyon repeaters
-The fighter Larva, a ship of superior mobility equipped with lancets and railguns to eviscerate a foe.

In the center, the enemy:
The mighty Cancer, lured into a trap, but still outfitted with 360 degree defenses and powerful aegis defenses in it's front, along with missiles, blasters and point defense that make many an enemy cower in fear.

(Note: I actually did have them battle - the cancer got it's ass handed to it).

So, what do you guys think? neat designs, decent concepts?

WEAPON SPAM. NEW FLAVR FOR THE 28th CENTURY. IN STORES NAO.

They don't really look like insects. They look like . . . ship sections connected by modeling paste. Give 'em form, give 'em a theme, etc.

Gotta agree with Chaos there, those ships are overgunned and rather un-insectlike.

I actually wasn't going for an insect theme, to be honest.

Also, these ships are meant for play, not just prettiness, so you'll have to deal with the amount of weapons.

But do they really look ugly?

Not really, only the red one and the smallest one is overloaded with guns, the rest are alright in comparison.
The bigger one to the left of the red one doesn't have too many guns at all.

Yeah, they do look kinda ugly, like the weapons are warts they're so evenly spread out. And as far as playability, did you know you can edit each weapon to make them as strong as you want? You can even make a single turret fire off multiple shots at once, to make it kinda like it's more than one turret. Just select a weapon, and click the 'edit' tab beside the four big buttons on the left.
Still, this is good for a first try, work on your technique and your ships will be looking good soon.

You should use modified weapons instead of large amounts of them.
