Bellcross Federation - Helicopters in space? Why not?

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Well, the transformable ships ARE meant to deal with other ships almost twice as large as themselves. Meaning they don't exactly fare well against smaller ships that can dodge their fire or big artillery ships when in Arsenal mode, since they can't move, so they easily get hit.

Nice idea, maybe make them like that in an encounter? start off with them for defense but they can be shot down.

Earlier this morning, the Bellcrossian government announced the deployment of a minefield around Outreach to protect against possible future attacks. While only in mid-deployment, it now has an impressive array of mines.

Image

All mines will be ID-coded to avoid friendly fire, and are equipped with advanced sensor mechanisms capable of detecting a vessel's origin and inputting it into a database on the planet. If considered hostile, the mines will arm themselves. If not, they stay dormant.

The largest mine here is the Gravi-Ring Mine, which was made for larger capital ships. The blast radius is larger and does more damage over a wide range, as the gravitic forces holding the ring to the main body break themselves upon hostile approach to release the gravity-bomb filled ring which blows into segments.

The smaller one shaped like a flower is the basic mine. Self-explanatory, but it's made for smaller ships, and as such, creates a smaller, more focused, explosion.

The one with a device on it is the culmination of micro-energy source technology. It's a Warp Mine, a mine that automatically performs a short-distance hyperspace jump using a special device into the belly of the target. Should any enemy ship get too close, they'll find this mine sitting squarely either in their bridge, engines, or somewhere where it can do the most damage upon detonation.

Bellcrossian military chief, Senator Farand, announced that the Bellcrossian military will commission a fleet of ships as a rapid-response team to To'Hol Venaari attacks. This fleet currently consist of four Xenon Corvettes and eight Rhino Heavy Frigates, but more ships are expected to be added.

Alexander Rook, leader of the 'Blood Seraphs' elite fighter squadron, commented that their unit had been assigned to the fleet, and that they were looking forward to the addition of the Growler Heavy Cruiser, which is a transformable ship currently undergoing system tests in the orbital shipyard. The ship is expected to carry multiple heavy laser turrets inside to be brought out in Arsenal mode.

Must I keep double posting? >.<

The Growler just finished the testing runs successfully and came back to the shipyard. Surprisingly, the ship itself is almost as large as a Valkstorm, although the armour is much weaker. It features a new type of deflector system called the Pinpoint Barrier System. It recharges much faster than normal due to special micro-energy source technology included in the device itself.

In normal mode, the Growler is unimpressive, however, upon transformation into Arsenal mode, the ship gains two extra-heavy missile racks that can decimate even a capital ship given enough time. Add on four heavy Graviton Beams and even more gatling blasters, and the ship can take on almost anything larger than a frigate, considering it's not fast enough to perform flanking maneuvers, as its rear defenses aren't the best. From the front, enemies will have to blow their way through a few blast armour plates.

Again, 10 burst on the missiles. Ouch. REALLY ouch.

holy lag batman! Well its a cool design, exactly the reason moving parts will be so awesome. Perhaps it expands at the cost of speed or armor? To be honest though the section 25s sticking out of the expanded missile pods are kinda bothering me...

Yeah, tilt the 25's back so that they match the angle of the section (3's?) on the end of the extended wings.
And wow, 440 missiles/salvo in arsenal mode. Your ships are dang tough to survive against when they're expanded out.

As I said in an earlier post, the transformable ships are meant to deal with ships almost twice their own size. They can't move in Arsenal mode (0.01 max speed and thrust), so they easily get blown up by artillery ships or fighters that can dodge their fire. The Growler's slightly different though, the deflectors let it live longer under fire.

There are 48 missile launchers, soooooo....... 480 missiles per salvo. Don't get in the way of the beast.

Double post again? =X

Changed a few things on the Growler. Armour angled backwards more and two more plates added too.

This isn't a real arsenal ship anyway. >.>

Image

You think the Bellcrossian military had enough with just dual-mode ships? Well, they didn't. A new cruiser called the Dranei just rolled out of the shipyard, packing a whopping 3 modes!

The normal mode offers the best speed among all three, but is lacking in terms of firepower and armour. Recent advances in nanotechnology allow the ship to replicate its own hull into a battlecruiser form, which has much more weapons, but is much more vulnerable to immobilization, as the rear thrusters are open to fire and the ship itself is extremely slow.

The Arsenal mode again, uses nanotechnology to replicate three more heavy Graviton Beams, allowing it to dish out a lot of damage, and take even more damage than the battlecruiser mode. Again, the Dranei is immobile in Arsenal mode and is vulnerable to artillery fire.

I'm tempted to say the third mode looks like it could belong in Privateer 2: The Awakening.

Cooked up a freighter since I accidentally made coffee instead of Milo and couldn't sleep.

Image

The Transorbit is a heavy freighter built for heavy work. Depending on the weight of the cargo and the number of cargo containers on it, the ship can add more heavy Skylaunch engines to itself, hence it is a modular ship. The ship itself carries only point-defense weapons due to the Intergalactic Law stating that cargo ships can not carry actual weapons. However, it does have two gravbeams that allow it to move other objects, in some cases, asteroids or enemy fighters. It also carries eight Pinpoint Barrier System units and six nanoprojectors.

Owing to the Skylaunch engines, the ship can directly take off in atmospheric conditions. This somewhat helps the versatility, as it doesn't need any special spaceports to land.

I see your fetish for straight lines, right angles, hideous chunks of solid colour, excessive abuse of the outlining technique and mediocre ship design continues unabated, Kira. I'm not sure if I should congratulate you on your persistence, or beat you over the head for ignoring most of the advice I gave you in the past.

Most of your newer ships at least have some redeeming qualities about them, but not enough to save them from their flaws.

I guess it's my way of doing things then. Adding curves everywhere just isn't my style. Besides, for some reason, I just get an average level of mastery in most things I do, then I can't seem to get further. Still, I'm not getting much comments from the others on my ships. It's just the occasional new idea then I get about 3-5 more comments. Usually it's one or two, and they usually don't have much on how to improve.
