Nerf My Ride

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Nerf My Ride

Post by Strideo »

Anyways I'm still pretty new to this game but I love it. I'm still tweaking a lot of ships for my own balanced fleet and trying to make them at least somewhat comparable to the stock ships. In the meantime this is my first large ship or at least the largest I've attempted so far. I'm not so sure about the color. :P

Flag Zero (don't ask about the name, I didn't want to sit around trying to think up something cooler)

So you'll notice the shockbeame right on the front end in the cleft of the ship's double prow. It's supposed to be a special weapon and it's firing arc is very narrow so it can only fire between the points of the double prow. The problem is I want to make the weapon more powerful than the standard shockbeame but I'm not sure I understand the weapon stats.

Custom Stats:
Damage: 3
Reload Time: 5

The above stats don't look too much better than the stock stats for the weapon but it's pretty much turned into a death beam that just cuts anything that's not shielded to pieces in seconds. I can't use decimals in setting the stats either.

Can anyone who understands custom weapons better recommend more balanced stats or maybe a different weapon?

I can upload the full weapon load out later if any one is interested.

Reload time is in frames, and there are 30 frames a second in BSF. So your beam shoots six times a second, hence the overpoweredness.

Nice ship btw.

Okay, got it! I set the reload to 75.

Thanks.

I like the rear "engine pods". It's very reminiscient of a "backwards Pod Racer" for anyone that's seen Star Wars Episode One.

The only thing that really bothers me is those center Demeter Launchers overlap, I have a thing against overlapping weapons. I'm guessing it's a mirroring thing, given its placement though.

I look at the Athena and I see overlapping Demeters. lol. But you're right, it looks like a mirroring error over being intentional.

Too make the special weapon beam more flashy while maintaining more or less the same functionality, I'd just up the damage around 10-30 (since its a shock beam, the beam will be wider = cooler)and up the reload time a lot meaning that it'd roast something (like one section) then sit there recharging for the next minute or so.
That might be OP though... for stock standards.

But agreed, that hull is nice.

OT: Neva Kee (The Backwards podracer) FTW. (I beat the entire SW Ep1 racer game using that one (after I unlocked it of course.) t

yup. neva kee is imba. but i only played it to the end to get ben quadinaro - which was the last pod to unlock. and then, ben sucked.

at topic: really nice ship. those broadside round sections with railguns really look neat. and the front wings with their outer stair thingy... really cool.

Thanks guys! I do like the way this turned out. I might have to play with some other colors. I'm not so sure a teal battleship looks very fearsome.

Yeah I already removed that. That was actually an error on my part. There's supposed to be just one launcher there and I accidentally added another while trying to line it up with the center line on the ship's hull. :P

Edit: I was just playing around and had the same problem pop up again. I guess it was a mirroring error then. If it's slightly off the center line then that'll happen, huh?

For the record: I don't like the overlapping demeters on the Athena either.=P

On the offtopic of Ep. 1 Racer: Between Neva Kee and 'Bullseye' Navoir, you could beat anyone, anytime, anywhere. Neva Kee rocks. >_>

On topic of the ship: Yes, anything that isn't on a perfectly horizontal (That's important, vertical won't work) parenting line from the core (It can be parented to some other section, but the connecting lines need to be fully straight) will get mirrored. This can get aggravating, because the parenting line's "center" isn't always the visual center of the ship, and if you mirror as you go like I do, you find yourself deleting copies left and right.

Nice ship. Good idea with combining weapons with white sections, all those guns don't look so out of place anymore, and th whole ship gets a more... techy feeling. Or terran, if you will.

Yes, that white section idea is very good.

When I saw the ship, I thought... 'lobster'.

Yeah now that you mention it it does look like a lobster. :P

I had to knock the speed down a bit too. It was taking way too many stock ships to defeat it. I mean obviously it's a bigger more heavily armed ship but I wanted a small fleet of stock ships to be able to take it apart with a little strategy (primarily getting something behind it to take out the deflectors).

Here you go! The stats are slightly nerfed from what you see in the opening pic of the thread but I included the blue print so people can customize it however they want.

Indeed! I say it is worth 8 points on the stock scale. Although the front and the side pods like to spontaneously explode when heavily damaged, since the ablative armour doesn't do its job well. (the inner large curved sections absorb most of the damage since they have large hitboxes, from experience they are usually the first sections to get destroyed)
