My attempts at shipmaking

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Well, I'm looking at the Blister right now, and I have to say, it's nice.

Simplistic, effective, and probably looking like something that we humans will make one day.

But as a BSF ship?

Very plain, the dark green/brown color scheme is hard to see on the black background, and not armed all that well. The weapons, while fine on their own, don't work well together (in my experience). I would suggest using something brighter for the color scheme (a light green with a camo brown would look good), and maybe stick to one type of weaponry (i.e: Beamers, Cannons or Missiles)
I knew it! Ageis DOES taste like Vanilla!

Good, thank you. Now, can I get some criticism for the S-11?

Here it is, remade from the ground up due to ignorance of parenting.

It has some slight moding to its core stats(450 AI Range, 400 HP, .7 accl & 2.5 max speed) It is equipped with 4 m beams, one mega beamer, 2 scatter beams, 3 beamers and 4 point lasers.

A very different look to it, I like it! Well armed and brighter is good. If anything, I'd switch the locations of the Beamers and the Scatter Beams. Otherwise, very well done!

Thank you. Now, can I have some criticism about the poor, abandoned, S-11?

Very nice but I wouldn't put a nanomatrix on a ship that small unless it is a dedicated repair ship.

Alright. Now, how about some more on the rest of the lineup?

First up, the Blister. The new design is actually pretty nice. It's a bit simplistic, and I see a few problems with the mirroring (it's off a few pixels here and there- easy fix). As far as the functionality of the ship, you're close, but not quite there. First, you're lacking segments. Segments aren't required, and the simplistic look is nice, but if it weren't for those Aegis Generators, that ship would go down in a couple hits from even a mediocre ship. Tactical ship design is all about additional segments strategically placed to defend more important segments. I'll admit, I still let aesthetics stand in the way of function from time to time when it comes to auxiliary segments. As someone has already pointed out, it's generally not a good idea to have a Nano on such a small ship, especially since you've got a nice complement of weapons too. I'm not sure how you are trying to balance your ship, so this advice may not be needed, but for such a small ship you may want to make those Aegis generators more vulnerable.

Last, you need an overhaul on the weapon placement. Those three beamers on the back of your ship won't do you much good. The AI will try to keep the front of your ship facing the enemy, and so beamers on the back won't get much of a chance to fire. This goes without mentioning that they are sticking off the edge, and so will be easily destroyed. Overall, I think this is your best ship. It's quite nice to look at, and only needs a few tweaks for balance.

Onto the S-11. This one needs quite a bit of work. It just screams "module test station." Honestly, there's no use for that many different modules, and they don't exactly work together any better than they do alone. If you were to, instead, use all one type of module, you'd have a better result. My advice? Pick one type of module and use it all four times. A station that deploys Impeder Platforms would be quite cool. Also, try to cut down on those Nanos. One is powerful enough. With four, that thing would be really hard to take down without an entire fleet. Also try to do a bit of work on its appearance. Right now, it's a square with some segments floating off the sides, and it looks really weird. Try to give it a more solid look.

Finally, the Despot. I should mention that Thrusters, though somewhat realistic, are pretty much bad all around. A few shots make it around to your backside, and you are dead in the water. Next, I'm seeing numerous mirroring issues. It looks like one side is completely off by several pixels from the others, and it makes it look sloppy. I'll also comment that it suffers from the same problem as your station, in that it has pieces that almost appear to float from the sides. I advise you redo this one, because it has a lot of potential, but just looks rushed.

Thank you!

On mirroring: That's mainly because I failed to properly center things early on, which makes mirroring difficult.

Also, for the S-11, how would I overhaul it to continue it being a repair based ship, and what weapon loadout do think would be a good idea?(same as now?)

And aside from thrusters and mirroring and floating, anything else on the Despot?

On the S-11. If you want to continue with the repairing theme, I'd go with either one Nano in the middle, or if you want to push it a bit, two in opposite corners. This means that your four Aegis "arms" that currently hold the Nanos wouldn't be necessary, and you could get away with converting them into another, more protective segment that you could then Aegis to increase the overall defense. As far as weapons go, you're pretty good in that area now. It really depends on if you want it to be a defensive platform or a staging ground. With two Nanos, four Impeder Fabs, and tactical but balanced Aegis shielding, you could have quite a nice staging station.

The Despot is a pretty nice ship, and it just needs some work. I'm not sure I like the side mounted weapons, for aesthetic reasons, and they also tend to get shot off pretty easily. This could be a personal preference thing, but with a practical standpoint, you should probably move your guns inward a bit. Honestly, I don't feel comfortable making many more comments on this ship as it is now. Throw out a second draft and I'll be more than happy to pick it apart all over again :P.

The new S-11 is looking pretty sweet. Fun to play with, too.

Can't wait for the new Despot.

Should I start from scratch or fix the current one?

Looks nice, but somewhere along the line the mirroring has EPIC FAIL.

Looky here, compare the spots highlighted in red with each other, ones on the top do not match their bottom counterparts. A session of shift+arrow keys will sort it out!
