Need BIG Spacestations!

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Need BIG Spacestations!

Post by th15 »

One of the game modes that I might be adding is a Leviathan game mode where you pit a small fleet against a truly massive space station. The challenge is to destroy the space station as quickly as possible.

I'd like to see what you guys can come up with. These are some guidelines:

-It should be HUGE. Go ahead and use all the space in the shipmaker
-It should have weak points. Hitting certain parts of the station should cause large sections to drop off
-It should be layered. Ideally each layer should require a different tactic to defeat. For example, the outer layers may be well protected by PD weapons such as Flak Guns, the next layer is protected by Aegis Deflectors and the final layer has extremely tough sections but has exposed weak points.

Fire power isn't really an issue here but the station should be pretty tough. While the station should have some guns, it shouldn't be an overwhelming amount of turrets. That said though, the station should have sufficient short range weaponry to discourage players from simply flying over the station.

It sounds to me like this game mode is doomed to faliure... people will just blast away at the station with lancet beamers, gluon bolters and teller torpedos without a care in the world....

Not quite. Doing that would probably take longer, and if the score is time-based (which is probable, given that other modes are) it would be the safe, low-return method. Attacking outright would mean your ships would get damaged, but you could probably destroy it faster, resulting in a higher score.
Look at raid, you can do the same thing there, but how often do you solely use lancets/gluons there?

Anyway, it sounds like a viable game mode. Not sure if I can do anything by way of station designs, but I might give it a try.

Try this one

http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... Target.shp

Hp 200000
Turnrate 20

It spins very fast and somehow regenerates health. Watch the core
Look Up
upon reading this:
50% of people will have scrolled up
25% will have looked at their ceiling
The last 25% can now feel smug because everyone else has taken orders from a little sig box.

How many points will the player have to spend on ships?

I'm still divided over whether to side with Captain Trek or Mechman.

Err, what about the HP distribution rules? About the front and center sections having the most and the rear and side section having less? until we can go for an even distrubtuion of HPs the stations are going to be sorely vulnerable from the back.

I might try and make something, but a bit of questions for Th15. First, does it have to be a space station, or can it simply be a huge battleship? The other question is, do you think it could be possible to make a radial mirroring tool?

Alright, this is what I've got so far, sans weaponry. Do you want it much bigger than this, TH?

That's a pretty good design you have there, Cerebrus, nice work. :)

Thanks. Funny enough, to me at least, most of it is done by hand- I only mirrored once for the scrunched up Aegis bits, and I redid that part anyway.

Well, it looks pretty much perfectly mirrored... well done I suppose... :)

Ooo that's nice :) A little big bigger would not hurt, maybe one more layer? That's if you've got a good idea to go for though, don't make it bigger if it'll make it look ugly.
