...speaking of which

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

...speaking of which

Post by Satanic Mechanic »

I remember seeing pictures of an anime, something about the battleship yamamoto, basically a wet navy battleship in space, and that, along with my morbid fascination with naval warfare, has spawned this :

Thorn Class Destroyer

As the name suggests, it's not supposed to be a supership, just annoying, hopefully in an amusing kind of way.

Anyhoo, thoughts, suggestions, should I continue with the theme?

Hmm.. well, sorry to say this, but at the moment it doesn't look substantial enough. Right now, the individual bits of it (eg super structure, weapons housings, etc) are fairly indistinct. I recommend you make the parts.. stand out more somehow, by using shapes and/or color. For example, using one type of hull section arrayed in the same direction for the hull, and then on top of that a bunch of distinct varied sections for the other bits.

I can see that you tried to do that, but the base hull piece you picked is too large for the rest to stand out properly. Try smaller pieces stacked together. Also, the superstructure bits.. add more of em! The more the merrier, though don't go overboard. :P

And I highly recommend different color tones; dark drab tones for the repetitive sections, brighter tones for the important bits. As for the shape of it, I recommend curving the hull more to give it a hydrodynamic shape. Right now it looks more like a bullet than a destroyer. Best if you could lay your hand on ship plans for future projects.

Hope I didn't offend or intimidate you, just trying to offer my own fallible bit of advice. =) This is an interesting theme you've got here, one that I was quite fond of in my younger days. Do carry on with it!

Advice can hardly be considered offensive, especially when I asked for it, and yeah, wasn't perfectly happy with the hull shape, for a start it's to thick for a destroyer considering the length of the ship, but I was thinking in terms of (a) getting a decent point on the bow, and (b) leaving room to make things larger than a destroyer at a later date.

...although, now that I think about, starting from the bottom as I do, by the time I need the space, maybe ship builder 3 will be out ;)
