Re: Preliminary Armour System
I guess you could do something like this: (never used GML before, but seems easy enough) if round(other.id.l_hp / 100) <= l_damage then var l_threshold = 0.1 // I'm guessing that the "l_" represents local variable? A weapon must deal at least threshold * section HP to deal full damage var ...

Re: Combat Trial Builds
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ... ahem. This thing is brilliant, seriously. Now if artillery could be made less vulnerable to PD so it can be a viable alternative to autocannons for heavy damage, that would be perfect. One issue I could see arising is that Vulcans becoming superfluous due to other weapons ...

Re: Preliminary Armour System
The root of the problem, IMO, is that PD is too powerful because it has a large clip size, thus destroying multiple projectiles with every shot. A few CIWS guns can stop any artillery barrage and 90% of HAC shots, making them all but worthless. Maybe lowering the clip size of PD, along with a corres...

Re: Preliminary Armour System
Brilliant idea, will give larger ships enough staying power to be worth their cost rather than a zerg rush of smaller ones, and address the weapon to armour balance nicely (which IMO was skewed towards weapons before). However, since PD is capable of negating artillery, missiles have poor DPS (among...

Re: Preliminary Designs
Now these are the kinds of ship I want to see :). Should be a frigate though BTW. It uses heavy vulcans however and should be changed to regular ones. EDIT: Clearly Arc's latest change was in response to the Cumulonimbus' awesomeness , and I think it's for the best as the Cumulonimbus could des...

Re: My first decent looking ship
It actually has rather good flow. Try building more ships like this, and maybe add some colour while you're at it. Also, please crop your screenshots.

Re: Preliminary Designs
Speed for the sake of dodgin bullets...well, It doesn't do so well since these battles will be AI only. Well, you would be wrong in that respect. With Flanking AI and sufficient speed (and a sufficiently thin ship), autocannons can be dodged with no problem. Add more speed, and artillery becomes ma...

Re: Preliminary Designs
If you need acceleration, light engines give the best bang for the buck. And a ship with less than 1 speed is not going to barrel uncontrollably in any sense of the word uncontrollably. Speaking of best bang for the buck... AA-CS2-WW Pilgrim-class Light Expedition Vessel http://i203.photobucket.com/...

Re: Preliminary Designs
Some Dst sprites are in Kaelis' sprites' folders. Also you either haven't read my posts on engines or haven't heeded them. CIWS are good though, really minimizes the damage that artillery could do on your hull.

Re: Combat Trial Builds
The PD issue I posted in the mirv thread persists in this build. Try using my C****s and C*****e ships in the so-called "sexy" blue team forum as allied and enemy, and then vice versa, and see the difference in the number of missiles that get through the PD. Also, artillery doesn't seem to...

Re: Alien Ships
It's good of you to use SWA sections, but I don't recommend using SWA versions of the stock sections. Rather, use original sections created in SWA style (like Kaelis' massive collection). If you want an alien style, there's the Kae-alien-sw pack which would be perfect for you.

Engine Comparison: http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa242/Water_and_Wind/Battleships/Azure%20Alliance/Speed.png Speed assist and heavy engine have the (slight) edge here, although all military engines are pretty consistent. Note that the speed assist does not provide enough of a speed advantage to...

Re: DPS Chart
Efficiency of power cores (power supplied/mass): In general, using as small a power core as possible is a good choice, until the efficiency bottoms out starting at the standard cores. CiviTech cores are efficient, however they can only use CiviTech engines which are atrocious as we will see.
