I also have a small glitch where the shield is capable of withstanding torps with 50 damage. Help? Explosive weapons cause damage not by direct impact, but by the strength of the explosion at the centre of the sprite. As the shield sprite is very large the explosion radius does not reach the centre...

I'd suggest an active scan of the area, focusing on the route towards the mining base. It's a likely place to attract raiders, and we can't afford to run into them blind in our current state. I have to agree, for a first post these are pretty high quality. They could do with some more fleshing out with more details but they're looking pretty good already. You might want to turn down the saturation on the cyan a little, it's pretty glaringly bright.

All that I can think of doing is possibly extending the front and then cleaning up/replacing the stretched sections. I guess that most people are just too busy to put much time into it now sadly =/

Added a bit more detail to the front and top. Not sure that I'm totally pleased with the additions but I'll leave that up to someone else to decide.
