Indeed, I am having problems downloading bl3d4's ship as well. The sprites download fine, however.

That's why projectile weapons are given far better DPS than beam weapons are in stock game. So they don't overshadow projectile weapons, as you suggest.

Speaking of which, in stock game beams are not meant to be kings of battle; they are meant to wear down opponents, which is why they sweep in the first place. The actual damage is supposed to be dealt by blasters and other projectile weapons, which have far better DPS ratings than beams. Point defen...

What is the hardware behind your internet connection? I know that in my computer, to save power the internet switches off when it does not detect outgoing activity for a while. If not, I would check all of your cables, i.e. make sure they're tight, and make sure all the lights are flashing correctly...

I do believe that this thread is ~2 weeks old, not a horrible necro, not to mention that the post in question adds discussable content. The main problem with your idea, strangepork, is that it's hell to keep track. A system you propose might work well embedded into a system, but remember that these...

Conversely, take the alleged Spore route, whereas what you meet depends on your playstyle and skill level, as determined by certain quantifiable things (e.g. what range your ships keep at, how many sections per minute you destroy on average, the size of your ships [the circle], etc....)

Let's not forget though that the ion drives aren't particularly powerful (yet). They provide little more than a gentle push in the grand scheme of things. Remember, every action requires an equal and opposite reaction, that's what these drives are based on. To make sharp turns and the like, you'd ne...

Lies. Everybody knows that there's a government conspiracy to cover up the release of Starcraft, which actually happened some 30-odd years ago. I'm curious to know what exactly this 'physics' they're talking about is, though. I see rolling rocks, but do they interact with units? Are the physics goin...

But... the micromanagement and the setting everything up is the fun part! Not really being sarcastic there, but eh. But all in all, looks like a RTT more than an RTS, which does compare on different scales. I am really wishing it had come out for the PC, so I could actually play it and back up my ar...

I would suggest trying to write your own velocity system based on vectors in code. It requires a lot more than you think it does. Calculations are one thing, actually making those calculations do something is another.

I'm interested in space-to-ground tactics. Assuming we establish a base on say, Mars or the Moon, what tactics could be employed to assault it if necessary? Orbital bombardment? Fire from the skies? If bunkers are built deep into Martian or lunar soil [in lack or a better word], they could survive q...

And from me an obvious one - Starcraft [and the upcoming badly-cut in three Starcraft 2  ] Definitely with you on that one. Outside of the commercial venues are FreeOrion and Thousand Parsec. Both are horribly incomplete and bordering on abandonment, but FreeOrion has a really nice tech tree ...

The first and third look good, but the second's shape looks a little odd to me. Feels a bit disproportionate. I like the wing-mounted weapons though, adds an interesting effect. The coloring could use a little work (e.g. different shades to represent different z-levels of the ship), but the overall ...
