I tend to use platforms with the same quad-angle rings, or just a core with a circular component to make it legal, but this offers a varied-environment testbed, and looks like something you could actually see in the future (although more as a colony station than a firing range!).

The first ship looks very much like on of the Klingon cruiser-y things, while the last has a resemblance to the old TOS Romulan Warbird.

By the looks of it, the point of the ship is to be a Demeter carrier; my one complaint is the topmost toothy section, it's too far from the hull, leading to a flat break in the outline and a gap area.
