The first time you mentioned it, I didn't like the idea, but I've given it more thought, and that resource system could work. To use it though, you really have to balance it so that isolationists who don't trade their researches ever get left behind, like in civilization, or you might as well not us...

The phase two due date will require you to send two encounters with your fleet positioned in them: one with the ships as allies on the right half, and one with your ships as enemies on the left half. I'll combine them and use that.

Yes, you'll find that ships never look like they need more weapons. It's how weaponsare placed that matters; see this for a beautiful example of not needing many weapons, and this whole thread for amazing weapon placement. Try applying the principles to your ships, and see if you can't think of some...

Well, everybody should build their section in a way that leaves things open for those that go after them, but I'm sure you'll do that.

Probably messy, considering that we're already going to be bringing our own styles to it. By the way, could I be 'stickied' to 2nd last spot for now? I'm assuming we'll get quite a bit of people, and I want to be later on...

Is there a minimum contribution? I'd like to take a turn to fiddle around with details mostly, and maybe weapons, later on. Also, as long as you keep things reasonable, are you allowed to touch stuff done before? Of course, we don't want edit wars...

EDIT: what, T-002?

For those who don't have their own thread or a teammates in the Custom Ships forum, see if another player can post yours for you. You could say that it's a spy's data on the enemy. That, or I could make a thread for all the pics that don't get posted there.

Realtime multiplayer shipbuilding! Guy A: 'Stop colouring that freaking piece orange, it look HORRIBLE' Guy B: 'Well, if you'd stop restretching that section 26, we might get somewhere...' Guy A: 'Alright, if that's the way you want it... *deletes Guy B's half*' Guy B: *spams sections all over Guy A...

If people actually wanted speedy battles, they'd make ships with 6 sections at most, even for battleships (using HP instead of adding sections to make them tougher), and never use more than 1 of any specific weapon per side instead of weapon banks (using burst instead).

Yah, KISS for the win. As for the hex grid, I guess I wasn't clear: Look at this picture (I'm sure there's better examples, but I couldn't find one)

Could everyone post the ships they were going to use for this? It'd be fun to see how they worked with each other, considering all the effort put into them.

As usual, the majority of responses are overly harsh and not very helpful. Repetition is not as bad as it could be since you lined up pieces very well. I would say, for this particular design, make it smaller. Use the same pieces, same pattern, just make it smaller so you don't have so much to fill...
