Failed? The second ship alone just put my entire fleet down, not that it's modern or anything, but I can't think of what to make with all these sections lying about...it just leaves me braindead.

Although in terms of practibility (Woot wordmaking), there's none of it. All that work just to make a very thin wall that presents a major weakness in the design, it might as well stay in its standard form.
