Railgun and beam spamming is just the logical conclusion of the naval arms race, being the only two types of weapons which are uninterceptable. And as damage ramps up, deflectors are the only logical defense 8)

As for the fleet, I love the triangular designs and really hadn't thought of doing it this way. Also, it's clear that I'm not catching up when your destroyers have more hp than my battleships!

Believe me, I do something like that already. Only 5% of those missiles will actually make it past the average opponent's point defense.

I've tested some of the ships and they're as nasty as they look - exponentially outclassing my ships on the higher levels. However, they all have that narrow gap down the center which leaves their cores exposed. I'm not sure if you intended that. Also, are the missiles on the Mjolnir II meant to be ...
