when making your sprites make sure that you turn off anti-aliasing when selecting eliptical areas. you can also correct them easily by going over the outline yourself

yeah it's normally safest there, and it's logical to put the reactor core near the engines where it's most needed

what weapon was it btw?

b) got an idea with triggers (pretty much fly striaight then rotate when aquiring a target)

nice, it looks much better

i prefer to have the gun held at an angle to the body than straight out though, which is what i've done with some mechs i made over the holiday. i just changed the angle of the body so the gun still pointed forwards

GIMP is win! i guess you just made a stencil of the outside of the ship in black and then layered it over the animation. that's what i would have done...

yeah, they're not really finished ships, just ideas that i'm going to develop. personally i like the second one's contrast between the front and back, but hey that's just me

lol, i could see that coming. i designed it specifically to take on entire fleets. there's not really much in the way of countermeasures than lots of ships, lots of firepower and a fair bit of sacrifice

i don't like the mech that much. the body's ok (the chest plate looks too light though) as with the thrusters on the back but the arms are completely out of proportion and it doesn't look right. i think you should move the shoulders closer to the body, and make the upper arms shorter to give a feel ...
