Re: An experiment in building "functional" spaceships

Intruiging Noctis, both of those are quite nice looking. I have a question though.
Where's the heat-sinks on the Lobster ship?

EDIT: Fixed the name

Re: My First Ship Made Using SWA Sections

Terry, please quit being an idiot. While your color comment is of dubious utility, your statement on hull shape was entirely useless because you failed to provide suggestions for how to make it better Snopel! Nice to see you remained. The only things I don't like about it are the middle of the back-...

Re: My First Custom Ships =P

Omicron, please quit failing to be an art critic. You suck at it. I'm honestly surprised Anna hasn't attacked you yet. Much of what you said does have merit, but your delivery may have just scared away a new member. Snopel, of your first four posted ships, the only ones whose over-all feel I liked w...

No, there's no way to change that ratio. Sometimes I wish there was.

Re: Making custom weapons?

That depends largely on what you mean. Changing a weapon sprite? ED3 tab in shipbiulder, assign whatever sprite you want. Adjusting an existing weapon's values (EG range, damage, reload) under the ED1 tab. There's a surprisingly great amount that can be done. Actual new weapons added to the game, th...

Re: First ship.

Overall nice design, though the neck connecting the head to the body could be made a bit thicker.
The engines could use some slight bulking up as well, though I think that might me my preference more than anything else.

Yes, but only in that it's a concistent style. I actually liked the previous ship better. See what you can do to it.

Interesting. I dislike the shield bits on the first ship, but cannot actually think of how to improve it. So I'll just move along to the second ship: Ditch the existing support struts for the pods, use a few of the small sections as the struts instead. Allso, ditch the struts linking the pods. I thi...

While it's nice to actually see a colony ship, (and probably just shy of massive per stock ship scaling) You do need to back off on the weapons a wee bit. For example, using the edit button in ship-maker, you could modify 4 of your 6 forward Blasters to fire a Burst of 2. This would mean you get the...

Quite interesting. What's the point of the frontal reactor on the first ship? Or is it not a reactor, merely something which requires pipes? Good color scheme, though the darkest parts of the first ship could use some brightening. The outlying pods (I'm assuming they are engines) look quite nice, es...

Strangepork:
You could allways take the simple fix route and make all of the PD weapons very expensive.
True, that's un-realistic, but it gets the balance correct.

To be perfectly honest ddx420, I forgot all about covered weapons.
Besides which, read the first part. Potentially. Right out in front.

A double-bladed punch-dagger is what it reminds me of the most. Potentially under-armed, unless it is a Carrier version, and even then it is under armed. (where is the Point defence? the shields? [unless a no or few-shield race]) The noses look a bit too stretched, but I think I understand the inten...
