It probably won't work in a tourney too well since we all would end up with max/min ships and your guidelines are a little too broad. You'll have to explain yourself some more here, since as far as I can see you're stating that a competitive tournament with a wide variety of carefully optimized shi...

Kosher, one big issue is that not all weapons scale DPS by upping the damage value. In some cases it alters the number of projectiles launched, for example. And if the alteration was perfectly scaled on all sides of the equation there'd be no point to changing anything in the first place. Also: Rega...

Ha, Calvinball. The thing you need to realize is that the numbers of the stock stats are so dismal that almost everything is basically the same thing just with a different effect, color, projectile, whatever. By increasing thoses values a thousand-fold everything becomes more unique, you can make w...

They, uh. . .they *are* guidelines for balanced custom fleet construction. Does this mean they don't work as the underlying ruleset for some sort of tournament?

People are perfectly capable of balancing their fleets themselves. Yes, but some people enjoy desigining effective ships- they want it to be a game. And what makes a game fun is the act of overcoming challenges. Right now, the game of tactical ship design is too easy; aegis deflectors+overpowered w...

Hey, all. It's been suggested that I run these construction rules by people; comments and criticisms are welcome. The goals of the ruleset were to make design interesting and to have the single-player ships all be fairly viable as examples of tournament designs. A more lengthy explanation's here if ...

One question, can you mod or resize weapons, or resize sections? Negative on both counts, with the exception of the different firing arcs. You could hypothetically put some balanced rules together, but it'd be a huge headache and I'm not interested in making it so that the key to success is breakin...

Ship and fleet balance rules.

I've been sitting on this for a while; it could work for a tournament ruleset, but personally I'm just interested in having a set of rules so I can really focus on tactical design when shipbuilding and enjoy some fleet engagements. The goal is to make it so that the balanced, interesting ships done ...

There's really no need to be touchy. Look, while I enjoy contributing I'm not about to hunt down and individually link to several hundred images that might serve as inspiration; the post directs you to the Equipment album, which in turn contains the most depictions of spaceships (but not all of them...

That's the point. I've gotten tired of being a Halo reference. You could change your avatar and signature to cast yourself as a native american tribal leader. I'm quite partial to the "type/example of ___" naming method myself, since it provides a fleet with a nicely consistent bit of the...

Perditorus Scriptor, or maybe Scribe of Perditorus. Translated into something a little more grammatic, the name would mean "Scribe of the Destroyer".

Easy there, friend. The post was meant as a lighthearted response to a comment by Master Chief, not a caustic attack on your standing as a member of this board; there's no need for insults. As for your comment about the gallery containing no spaceships, are you sure you were paying attention? I coul...

[schemingvillianvoice]Quite fortunate that the thread topic remains relevant and the thread necromancer happens to have something worthwhile to offer, yes? Four months is but a trifle, boy. I've seen threads unearthed from the depths of the abyss, ones that had lain buried not for months but for yea...

Heh. Eheheheh. Oh, I certainly wouldn't have anything to contribute to this discussion, no. . .a huge gallery of stock images acquired for the express purpose of creative inspiration? Including an "equipment" section that features numerous vehicle pictures, including a healthy serving of s...
