You wouldn't exactly need sophisticated beat detection if you based it off of more easily detectable factors such as relative volume or speed.

C, I tried C#, but it was just not as good as I expected.
Now I am getting to the point I can do the graphics stuff again, as I explore openGL in 2D and 3D, overall it seems better than c#, although the c# editor makes a fantastic editor for torquescript files and they use the same file extension....
