Normandy Empire Fleet

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Normandy Empire Fleet

Post by Normandy »

Drumroll please...

It's me, and I'm making ships again, so duck and cover!

Well, so far I've got one ship done and another in progress. It's harder to make large uber-wank ships than I thought. There's just some force within me that prevents me from building such ships. But it's still really awesome.

"Intrepid" Class Light Cruiser.

This ship is relatively weak, as compared to the giant behemoths of competing shipyards, but it has one advantage: design. The simple yet elegant design, which reduces the need for heavy ablative armor and deflectors, has brought it a national image, that being one of high design above all.

Armaments:
1x Mega Scattering Beam
2x Hyper-Power Railguns
3x Dual 12-Pod Scatter Rocket Systems
2x Rifled Pulse Blaster
4x Blaster Cannon
2x Liquid-Cooled Gatling Blaster

Image

"Sovereignty" class Dreadnought.

The largest ship Normandy's Empire has ever churned out. EVER! The screenshot itself is 13 times larger in terms of kb than the screenshot of the cruiser. It combines the simple, elegant design of normal Normandy ships with the power of something like... The War Clockwork ship.

Armaments:
3x OMFG-BEAM corp. Shock Beamers
15x Gatling Blaster
8x Upgraded Hyper-Power Railguns (I think I put the range a little too short on these)
16x 12-Pod Scatter Rockets [Unlinked]
2x OMFG-BEAM corp. Diffracted Mega Beamers
1x OMFG-BEAM corp. Tachyon Beam
2x Mega Tachyons

Nice ships, but I have a bit of personal gripe:

One and tenth ships. He shows 1 and 1/10 ships and already he's got 2 people saying how nice they are.

I have 20 ships and barely anyone bats an eye. I've made several ingenious custom weapon. Invisible Shock Beamers. Tachyon Driver Saws. Limited ammo weapons. The list goes on and on.

I updated 2 days ago. I don't think anyone even noticed.

My ships: http://www.wyrdysm.com/phpBB2/viewtopic ... 81&start=0

PS: I'm just kinda irratated that no one seems to care when I update. I've gone 4 updates with no posts. Another time I added 6 ships in 2 updates, completely streamlined the downloading, and added a description for each existing ship. I got 4 people who commented.

Dude, take a chill pill. It got old after the twentieth time you mentioned it.

If you notice the trend on the forums, people who spend their time building more balanced ships get far fewer comments, while people participating in the "cold war" with superwank ships are more popular. (Art-like fanships work too.) Myself I haven't commented much because I'm not really into your style, so I dunno what I'd say. That, and everytime I look at your thread, I can't help but think how much your beloved Howitzer looks like a flying wang.

Okay, so you don't like my style and the way my Howitzer looks.

Comment on that then. I don't care if you're complaining or pointing out flaws, I just want some input. That's all. That's the main reason why the way I design my ships has stayed pretty much the same. I get next to no input.

Natch, I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to say this, but shut the hell up. Don't go about trolling for attention in other people's threads. It's getting tiresome. If people want to comment on your ships, they will. If they don't, they won't, and they don't have to, either.

And now, partially to spite you, I'll tell Normandy how I feel about his ships:

Very nice. The Intrepid looks pretty cool. I like the look of the Sovereignty so far. Can't wait to see what comes of it. I have a few minor nitpicks with them, but they're mostly just to do with personal taste, more than anything else. Looking forward to seeing what else you make. It's good to see you building ships again. :D

w00t highjacked thread!
Look Up
upon reading this:
50% of people will have scrolled up
25% will have looked at their ceiling
The last 25% can now feel smug because everyone else has taken orders from a little sig box.

Seconded. There's a reason I blocked you on MSN/AIM, Natch. Get a clue. You may be in a similar boat to me (I seem to get hardly any comments on my stuff sometimes) but at least I don't whine about it. :roll:

Anyway!

That said;

Interesting design style, particularly on the Intrepid. It looks remarkably flimsy with all that open interior space and so on. It does seem to be a new/unique style though, and plus points for using boosters to make the weapons "double up".

As for the incomplete one; again, it looks very flimsy in places.

Is that some reverse psychology I sense? :P

Oh, and as a suggestion;

Don't bother working further on the new one. Once SM3.0 is officially out the blueprint will be incompatible, so unless you complete it before then (or keep the beta around) your work will be lost, effectively. :?

Oh come on. You're not the only one that happened to.

My original fleet thread I spent loads of time trying to balance it (and failed miserably since there weren't enough ships, but whatever). It's all about nice and flashy.

You got more posts on your thread than my original fleet thread, and that was a major WIP, not 'all at once', which would theoretically give more posts, but it didn't.

@Giles:

I don't know, I agree with you... I just didn't feel right about something, just couldn't put my finger on it.

@All:
Well, don't have much time today, next ship maybe the day after tomorrow. Trust me, the wait will be worth it.

I don't really like the look of the first one at all. It seems very, I dunno, incoherent to me.
