New Section Submission

Post by th15 »

Well, it's pretty obvious that the list of sections is missing some sections so I'll take submissions for new sections. Please focus on types of sections we don't already have (i.e. square or internal sections) instead of re-designing existing sections.

Sample:
Image

Requirements:
-Each section can have 3 colours, black, grey and white. I suggest you inkdrop the values from the sample.
-80x80, make sure your section is in the centre or it'll go all wonky when flipped.
-Submit as a lossless gif file.
-Bottom left pixel must be black, black is the transparency colour
-You must have a border of one black pixel around the whole thing (within that 80x80) otherwise the edges won't be interpolated properly.

Fire away!

Not sure if your base color is black or white so I made it both.

Except that you need a black border around the whole thing or the edges won't be blended quite right.

So shrink it a pixel; can do. :)

And, did.

EDIT: Studied sample object, applied necessary corrections to mine.

Looking good so far! I like the diamond and your block, Danny. It looks like some kind of weapon hardpoint or reactor vent. :) I think your wedge could do with more detail though, pwhk.

However if we're going to have lots of custom sections I suggest an overhaul to the shipmaker's section selection system (alliteration!) so that it's easier to find what you want.

Option #1; Dropdown sheet
Hit a "select part" button and a big screen-size sheet appears. Scroll bar on the right. Click on a part to select it and place. You can then click the "place part" button to place again, or "select part" to pick a new one.

Option #2; As above, with categories
Add categories; "wedge", "internal", "external", "misc", etc. that can be selected from a dropdown box/list at the top of the parts sheet. This filters out all parts that aren't in that category so you can browse only wedges and so on. Each part can have multiple "tags" and thus fall under multiple categories. Ideal tags are general shape (eg; wedge), race (terran/alien1/alien2/other), author (stock/whoever) and so on. :)

I suggest rotating the triangles thar by 90, clockwise. Easier to position for noses, or rotation to the side for hardpoints. ;)

Very nice. Would make a good wing piece for my Scalpel.
