Shalani Fleet

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Shalani Fleet

Latest DL: Shalani Fleet

Ekia Frigate: A small, cheap craft. While weak, they work well in groups and have some repair capacity. In large battles, they hang at the back, but police forces generally have one as their primary craft because they have point defenses Pilots must remember to protect the weak front form too much fire, however.

Voryon Destroyer: Small, but centuries of redesigns have made it the most efficient ship in the fleet. Although it's main attacks are vulnerable to point defenses, they're painful when they get through. It even has as much point defense as a Suitraiva.

Suitraiva Cruiser: It's name means "insect", and it looks the part. In addition to a trio of Kom Ete Kahn Ahns, it has two powerful Charr Pchou Terrs for close-range battles. It stalks, it kills.

Khastal Battlecruiser: A small, dense, powerful attack unit. It carries massive firepower and good armor, and generally acts as a one-ship diplomatic escort through unstable territories. It's main armaments are the Lih Ning Khan Ahn banks, but it also packs the trio of Kom Ete Kahn Ahns from the Suitraiva.

Hylain Battleship: This ship was built by the Khastal engineers. While inordinately expensive, it's also inordinately powerful and well-armored. Ion-particle cannons are its main weapon, but it has Lih Nings and Kom Etes as well. Campaign battlegroups and colony fleets always have one Hylain as a command vessel.

Hmm, the bottom one looks almost like one of the ships I'm making. Nice ships btw. The weapons clutter on the rearmost one could be fixed.

Very good, the one in the top right seems lacking. Immediately after scanning it, it just jumped out as the "one not like the other" so to speak.
Don’t worry it has airbags.

Ahh these ships, i remembered when i first tried using these ships. They are quite awesome in their own right. I liked the Aleoi because most of the time i tried attacking it, the beams would fire in a kind of oscillating manner which i found quite cool.

Excellent work, will you be adding more CT?

Yes. It is my least favorite. You can see how my style changes from Rhalani to Aleoi to Khastal to Hylain, and I'd have to say that it's definitely a good progression. I used to love the Rhalani, but now I think it looks weird. I may replace it. I'm also seriously considering shrinking the Aleoi because it looks funky in scale.

@Darkship: Yes, there will be more, and yes, the Aleoi was basically purpose-built to show off the beam oscillating effect that comes from an arced array.

Well, there is an awful lot of repetition, but I think it's tastefully done. Good ships.

Making repetition look good is one of my personal vendettas. It also springs from the fact that I only really like to use a small variety of sections. Repetition actually isn't as prevalent in this fleet as in most ships I make . . . (*cough*Archangel*cough*) . . . mainly, it's just thematic repetition.

i gotta use that one
anyhoo, really neat ships, however the whole hulking ship description of the titan sort of amuses me. Although bigger, it's not THAT much bigger if you know what i mean. Of course, section wise...

edit:

Yeah, the scale is screwed up. Live with it until I fix it. For what it's worth, perhaps I should demote the Khastal to Destroyer and the Hylain to Battleship. I was intending to build one ship bigger (Leviathan) but I may just make that the fleet Titan.

The thing with the Hylain is that it feels hulking because it's not spindly and looks like it's made of spiky metal biceps. [/plug] [/hate on Rhalani]

Any serious comments on the ships, people? I think the Hylain stands next to the Synapse as the most beautiful ship ever made. Prove me wrong. :P

Cool ships, very well done.
However I don't like all the beams you have on the top left one.
Looks kind of ugly with all those beam weapons:?

Have you played with it at all? >_> They oscillate. It's cool.

Also, the Hylain still seems excessively weak. The beams are gonna get an upgrade.

The thing with this fleet is that they're clearly great work, but just as obviously, they're nowhere close to your potential.

My reasoning:

+ Superb colours in their native scheme, but not custom coloured; they don't look nearly so good in all blue.

+ The oscillating beamers are a work of art in themselves, but they're just that - Beamers. Coming from the purveyor of advanced layering techniques, I was disappointed.

+ Weapons on your largest ship; the beamer/shock beamer layering is decent, but it's simultaneously painful to watch because the missile turrets still fire, not to mention that they don't rotate properly.

Yeah. I fixed that thing with the missiles, but apparently it didn't save.

I think I'm gonna overhaul the first two ships and shuffle things around. I just don't have the time right now.

Fixed everything, first post is updated. New frigate added, Aleoi and Rhalani* were mercilessly chopped and lowered until just the cool parts remained, other ships rebalanced. Missile bug fixed. Have fun.

*some names have been changed
